Auckland region specially the ones around the city has the highest costing properties in New Zealand. A 2 bedroom decent condo would cost at least $500 a week, without furnishings. These are for apartments located in Freeman's bay, Parnell and Remeura... these are my favorite suburbs... but they cost an arm and a leg.

If you need to live in Auckland, and you have a family, it would be best to live around the city's fringes. The cheapest area is Papatoetoe and it's very close to the airport. Though many might think it's not a 'dream' area, those who want to save might be able to find safe pockets within Papatoetoe.

380 Airporter - Manukau City Centre to Auckland Airport

The 380 Airporter runs from Manukau City Centre via Papatoetoe train Station to the Auckland Airport Retail Centre. Buses run 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and up to every 30 minutes during the day.
Manukau - Airport: First bus 4.15am, last bus 10.45pm
Airport - Manukau: First bus 5.00am, last bus 11.30pm
If you are travelling on a Naked Bus, Intercity or Newmans service, you can also catch the 380 to the airport from Manukau City Centre where there is a connection point.
Tickets
Tickets are available from the bus driver. From Manukau City Centre to the airport the fare is $4.30 one way for an adult.
Naked Bus passengers can buy tickets online for their journey to the Airport - visit www.nakedbus.com to book.
It takes approximately 25-40 minutes to get from Manukau City to airport using this service (traffic depending).
Train-Bus Connection to Auckland Airport (via Papatoetoe Train Station)
You can catch a train from anywhere along the Southern or Eastern Lines and connect at Papatoetoe Train Station with the 380 Airporter bus to the airport. From Papatoetoe to the airport it takes around 25 minutes travelling time - please factor in any connection time when you plan your journey.

Trains run between approx 5am - 10pm with later evening services on Fridays.

It's a good 6 hours and a half to drive from Auckland to Wanganui. If you use the train, it's a good 8 hours travel time, including a lunch break at the National Park cafe. Auckland Airport is one of the best in the world for the following reasons:
1. It's not so huge that you can get lost.
2. The airport officials are friendly.
3. The airport is clean.
4. You can easily find your way from the plane to a taxi.
5. The prices of NZ goods in the duty free shop are very competitive. Enjoy shopping!
6. The airport provides comprehensive tourist information and assistance.
7. There's free internet near McDonalds. There are only 4 computer stations though.

The disadvantages?
1. Bus services are only up to 11pm and starts at 4:15am. If your flight comes in anywhere in between, you would have to pay dearly for a cab fare.
